Landscape

The main settlement of Struppen lies in a broad valley on the left bank of the Elbe; the slopes rise gently towards the surrounding uplands. In the district of Thürmsdorf, the mausoleum on the Elbe slope offers a view into the Elbe Valley.

Culture and History

The organ of Struppen Church was built in 1668 and expanded in 1736. Struppen Church is described as the oldest church in Saxon Switzerland. In 1758, Struppen was the birthplace of Wilhelm Leberecht Götzinger, who wrote books about Saxon Switzerland. An armistice was signed in Struppen on 16 October 1756.

Struppen Castle can be visited during public events, exhibitions and guided tours, or by prior appointment. The ballroom in Struppen Castle is described as a venue for events, celebrations and exhibitions.
