Oberlungwitz: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature
The Lungscher nature trail begins at Henny Pond and leads directly into the Hirschgrund landscape conservation area. Along the trail, information boards explain environmental and nature conservation.
Culture
The abbey church was built from 1746 to 1748 and consecrated in 1749. It was built in the style of an old village church and has two galleries. Its furnishings include a small two-manual Kreuzbach organ with mechanical cone chests. The Baroque pulpit depicts Moses holding a tablet bearing the Ten Commandments. Two old bells from the abbey church are housed in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg.
St. Martin's Church preserves a medieval section of tower and church furnishings dating from the early 19th century. Its 45-metre-high tower offers views over Oberlungwitz, the surrounding area and the Ore Mountains. The church also has a large three-manual Jehmlich organ.
Earlier eras can also be discerned in the townscape: Historic three- and four-sided farmsteads can still be found in Oberlungwitz and are reminders of its former period as a farming village. The “Lungscher Stadtgeflüster” project places information boards on significant buildings and sites where parts of Oberlungwitz's history have disappeared. The town's hosiery-knitting tradition is associated with the year 1731, when Samuel Uhlig acquired the city's first stocking-knitting machine.
History
Oberlungwitz's historic post station was located on the old Franconian postal road from Chemnitz via Oberlungwitz to Lichtenstein; the preserved Royal Saxon milestone is associated with it. Its location on the historic transport route from Hof via Zwickau to Chemnitz brought heavy traffic and frequent troop movements. Today, the Royal Saxon milestone stands on the newly redesigned forecourt next to the Zur Post inn.
Motorsport
At the Sachsenring in Oberlungwitz, visitors can take part in safety or sports driving programmes for cars and motorcycles. These include drifting training, race-track training, motorcycle cornering training, race taxi rides, formula car driving, touring car driving, sidecar taxi rides and indoor karting.
The modern Sachsenring was built between Hohenstein-Ernstthal and Oberlungwitz after the old road circuit was closed in 1990. Two years after the new centre was built, the Motorcycle World Championship races returned.
