Culture

Utzerath's St. Antonius Chapel stands at the intersection of Bahnhofstraße and Schönbacher Straße. The present building dates from 1849. Inside are a wooden altar from the early 18th century, statues of Saint Anthony, Saint Odilia and Saint Bartholomew, as well as a bell from 1702. Restored historic half-timbered buildings form part of Utzerath's village fabric.

Village Life

Local traditions include the setting up of the maypole: young people prepare and decorate the maypole and erect it on 1 May. During the Easter tradition of Klappern, children walk through the village with wooden rattles from Maundy Thursday to Holy Saturday; a collection follows on Easter Sunday. The annual Whit village festival uses the pavilion on the village square, a small tent and a barbecue stand; coffee and cake are also served.

During the St. Martin's procession, a person dressed as Saint Martin rides along while children carry torches and lanterns to a bonfire. Holiday guests also take part in the St. Martin's evening in Utzerath. At the edge of the forest there is a barbecue hut with benches, parking spaces, a tent, a camping meadow and indoor and outdoor fire pits; a paved access road leads directly to the hiking trail network.
