Culture and history

In the centre of Kleinniedesheim, a Baroque palace complex is a defining feature of the settlement. Kleinniedesheim Palace, also known as Gagern's Palace, hosts chamber music and Baroque concerts and serves as a venue for cultural events. The pavilion in the Kleinniedesheim Palace gardens was built in 1785; its architectural style is described as reminiscent of the Roman Pantheon.

West of the palace, the former garden has been preserved as a park with a small pavilion. The former palace park pavilion is used for regular civil wedding ceremonies. On Großniedesheimer Straße stands a Protestant Baroque church designed as a hall church, with a roof turret dating from 1725/26. A relief-decorated Romanesque impost block from the 12th century is set into a garden wall at Bobenheimer Straße 14.

The historic building fabric in the south of the village retains its original character and is shaped by the traditional house-and-courtyard layout. From the highest point of the approximately 3,500-square-metre Historic Complex, there is a view over the village and the vineyards.

Landscape and trails

Within its older boundaries, Kleinniedesheim extends from the high, steep edge of the high terrace in the west to the low terrace of the lowland plain in the east. The difference in elevation is approximately 15 metres. Around 52 hectares of vineyards are located in the Kleinniedesheim area.

A cultural and historical cycle route reaches Kleinniedesheim from Bobenheim-Roxheim via a cycle path alongside the road and leads from the village along farm tracks via Großniedesheim to Heuchelheim.

Wine and enjoyment

Merkel Winery offers Sauvignon blanc, Gewürtraminer, Syrah, Secco, sparkling wine specialities and wine aperitifs. Seating is available for visitors indoors and outdoors; the winery also organises wine tastings for groups of at least two people.

According to the winery, the Merkel family cultivates around 13 hectares of vineyards in the Kleinniedesheim area in accordance with organic farming guidelines.
