Harthausen showcases its history along the cultural trail, in its tobacco-growing tradition and around the Heilsbruck monastery grounds; at the same time, a family adventure hiking trail begins at the forest playground. Culture

The Harthausen Cultural Trail provides interested visitors with local historical and cultural information. Designed as a circular route, it can be started at any point and comprises 20 stations focusing on historically significant buildings or sites. Information boards are supplemented by QR codes providing facts and data about each station.

Harthausen has archaeological evidence from the Stone Age, the Urnfield period, the La Tène period and the Roman period. The Heilsbruck monastery grounds near Harthausen are associated with a foundation charter from 1230 concerning the Mühlwieshecke area. Cistercian nuns settled in Heilsbruck in 1232; in 1262, the monastery was moved to Edenkoben.

The parish church of St. John the Baptist in Harthausen was first mentioned in 1359. The present building was constructed in 1872–1874 in the Maximilian style and preserves a late Gothic Pietà from the previous church, dating from 1511.

Nature

The Woogwiesen nature reserve covers approximately 13 hectares and extends across parts of the municipal areas of Harthausen and Dudenhofen.

Family and Trails

The forest playground is Harthausen’s largest playground and is located directly behind Heilsbruckhalle. It was created in 2009 as a community project and designed as a nature-oriented playground. During another community project in 2013, the forest playground was renovated, a forest classroom was built and a letterbox tour through the Harthausen Forest was created. A family adventure hiking trail also begins at the forest playground; its starting area includes a barefoot sensory circle.

Geographical Setting

Harthausen is a traditional tobacco village, whose agricultural tradition is reflected in the Tobacco Village Festival. The Historic Tobacco Barn was built in 1852 and, following extensive renovation in 1990, became a community meeting place.

The Rhein-Pfalz district promotes cycling routes through flat landscapes and along rivers and lakes, through floodplain forests, vineyards and vegetable fields. The Vorderpfalz Lowlands around Römerberg-Dudenhofen are characterized by forests, stream valleys and meadows and support cycling and hiking.
