Nature

The Niederwiesenweiher in Böhl-Iggelheim offers swimming in a natural setting and opportunities for walks. The pond is a gravel pit lake fed by groundwater and spring water; gravel was extracted there until 1973. Today, it is situated in natural surroundings with reeds and floodplain forest under landscape protection. The Niederwiesenweiher has a small, shallow bathing area with a sandy beach, which is open for swimming at visitors’ own risk.

The Iggelheim Nature Friends House has a partially covered beer garden and a natural children’s playground in a car-free forest area. The community bus is equipped with an access aid and can transport up to 18 people as well as two wheelchairs.

Culture

Iggelheim has two local history museums: the Altes Rathaus Local History Museum and the Altes Schulhaus Local History Museum. Both are housed in historic half-timbered buildings. Iggelheim is also home to the Protestant parish church, a late Baroque hall church dating from 1755/56. Three tower levels of the former church have been preserved; a fourth level was added in 1834. The Catholic Church of St. Simon and Jude Thaddeus in Iggelheim was built in 1935/36 and contains wooden statues of the two saints dating from around 1750.

In Böhl, the Catholic Church of All Saints was built in 1856/57 in the Neo-Gothic style as a sandstone ashlar structure. The Protestant parish church in Böhl was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1908/09 after a fire in 1906.

The annual Iggelheim Kerwe takes place on the third weekend of September and features changing live music. The event alternates between a Sunday flea market and a vintage tractor gathering with a farmers’ market.

Cycling
