Heßheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Heßheim displays its historic character particularly in the town center: it follows the former layout of a one-street village along Hauptstraße and Kirchenstraße. Buildings whose present-day fabric partly dates from the 12th or 16th century include the Catholic parish church, the Catholic vicarage, the town hall, and the Leininger Herrenhof at Hauptstraße 53. Culture and History

The Heßheim Kerwe is scheduled for the fourth weekend in August and lasts from Friday to Tuesday. Pieter Schoubroeck was born in Heßheim in 1570 and became known as a representative of the Frankenthal school of landscape painting. Six large sculptures stand at the new Verbandsgemeinde town hall; they were created in 1996 on the theme “Unity in Diversity.”

Cycling

In the wider regional area, the Kraut-und-Rüben cycle route runs through the Palatinate wine-growing region and the Rhine plain between Bockenheim and Schweigen-Rechtenbach. The route is predominantly flat and is described as family-friendly. It is signposted in both directions.

Nature and Bodies of Water

Lambsheimer Weiher is a lake of approximately 20 hectares between Lambsheim and Frankenthal. From Lambsheimer Weiher, there is access to several cycling and hiking trails, including an approximately two-kilometer circular route around the lake. The lake has a small campsite and the Fischerhütte restaurant with a lakeside terrace, conservatory, catering facilities, and sanitary facilities. In summer, Lambsheimer Weiher is used for swimming; there is also a beach bar.

Rhein-Pfalz District

The Rhein-Pfalz District is associated with Rhine floodplains and a regional network of cycling and hiking trails, which also includes the Kraut-und-Rüben cycle route. The region also offers museums, festivals, and seasonal agricultural produce.
