Heistenbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Heistenbach lies in a valley surrounded by small hills and floodplain meadows. Hiking trails in the Nassau Nature Park lead through forests and open landscapes around the village. The signposted Halfterweg trail also passes through Heistenbach: the 18.6 km route runs from Diez to Obernhof, passes through Heistenbach, and continues through meadows and forests.

Nature

Other trails lead from Heistenbach into the surrounding area. The Heistenbach stream flows for 4.5 km to the Lahn. The Heistenbach barbecue hut has a fire pit and toilets.

Culture

Renovated half-timbered houses can be seen in Heistenbach’s old village center. Clearly recognizable Celtic burial mounds have been preserved near the farmsteads of Heistenbach. In the area around the stream, ground deformations are interpreted as traces of foundations. Tradition holds that the spring opposite the Wilhelmshütte supplied the village well.

History

Iron and manganese ore were mined in Heistenbach until 1883. Limestone, partly in the form of marble, was extracted here from 1872 until around 1963. According to oral tradition, a settlement called Scheuren stood here until the end of the 16th century.

The Heistenbach cemetery was inaugurated on February 16, 1840. In 1919, a memorial was erected there in honor of 21 residents who died in the First World War. The memorial plaque was expanded in 1954 to include 24 people who died in the Second World War.

Diez is designated as the nearest A3 interchange; it is approximately 7 km away. The B417 runs about 1 km from Heistenbach, south of Diez. The nearest long-distance ICE railway stations are Montabaur and Limburg Süd.
