The Lubentius Trail starts in Hirschberg and ends in Balduinstein. The route is 8 km long and takes about three hours on foot.
Nature
Above Hirschberg, a barbecue hut offers views over the Taunus. The protected natural monument “Stumpe Eiche” provides a place to pause and reflect. Near Hirschberg, the route follows the Daubach through a light beech forest.
Pilgrimage Trail
The Lubentius Trail follows the legacy of Saint Lubentius, who was active in the region in the fourth century. A longer variant starts in Diez on the Halfter Trail. The route connects with the Halfter Trail towards Herthasee, Laurenburg and Obernhof, or continues towards Diez. The section beginning in Hirschberg supplements the approximately 150 km main route from Kell on the Moselle to Limburg-Dietkirchen. The Lubentius Trail runs mainly along well-maintained forest and field paths, supplemented by paved sections.
Culture and History
The local church history includes a chapel built around 1400 and a bell cast in 1409, which is still housed in the church built in 1892. Two graves opened in 1896 on the southern descent of the Höchst are probably graves from the Celtic period. Remains of an iron-smelting site found along the old road to Isselbach may also date from the Celtic period. In Balduinstein, Balduinstein Castle is described as a notable attraction.
