History

The present-day settlement of Kesfeld emerged during the period of land clearance in the 12th century. Archaeological finds, the remains of Roman buildings and burial mounds in the surrounding area provide evidence of early Celtic and Roman settlement. From the 14th century onward, Kesfeld belonged to the Lordship of Dasburg in the Duchy of Luxembourg.

The history of the Siegfried Line is also connected with the surrounding area: 115 Siegfried Line bunkers were built in the areas of Großkampenberg, Leidenborn and Kesfeld. The Siegfried Line fortifications were built by the Nazi regime between 1936 and 1940.

Hiking

The Islek Siegfried Line Hiking Trail follows the line of dragon's teeth between Großkampenberg and Kesfeld. Along the route, information boards explain the tank barriers and other aspects of the Siegfried Line. Near Großkampenberg, two technically different lines of concrete tank barriers have been preserved.
