Echtershausen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Echtershausen is part of the South Eifel Nature Park and lies on the northwestern arm of a reservoir on the right bank of the Prüm.

District Road 71 connects Echtershausen southwards via Hamm and Biersdorf am See with Bitburg.

Culture and History

The listed Catholic St. Mary’s Chapel at Hauptstraße 12 is a rendered building with a roof turret dating from 1892 and a later sacristy extension. The listed Quereinhaus at Hauptstraße 6 dates from the first half of the 19th century and has a somewhat later smithy extension.

In the village center, a slate rock documents the former western course of the Prüm around the village. West of the hollow-way junction leading to the village stands a listed wayside cross dated 1778. At the eastern edge of the forest, next to the stream marking Echtershausen’s western boundary, stands another listed wayside cross from 1770; its finial cross was added later.

Hiking

The Stausee-Prümtal route circles Echtershausen and leads through the light and occasionally dense Eifel forest. Stage 4 of the Eifelverein Willibrordus Trail runs from Echtershausen to Oberweis over 15.5 kilometers.

From Echtershausen, the Stauseeroute Biersdorf follows the Willibrordus Trail via Ringelstein and descends to the Bitburg Reservoir after 3.7 kilometers.

Water

Swimming, diving, and fishing are not permitted at the Bitburg Reservoir.
