Fleringen’s landscape is considered to be characterised by flat plateaus with rugged dolomite limestone cliffs. In the village itself stands the Quereinhaus, regarded as the most recent dated residential building of the Renaissance type in the area of the Prüm collective municipality and classified as a cultural monument of the Trier region.

Those considering Fleringen as a travel destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture

The choir and tower of Fleringen church were built around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, while the nave was added in 1683. The ceiling paintings in the old choir were restored in 1973/74 and depict Christ as Judge of the World, surrounded by the four Evangelists. The high altar was carved by Johann Molitor in 1663. The side altar contains a Rhenish Madonna and Child from the 14th century.

A Crucifixion relief from the early 17th century is set into the church’s south-eastern exterior wall. During a visitation in 1570, the Evangelist Luke was already recorded as the church’s patron saint. The sacristy probably dates from the 17th or 18th century. The war memorial in Fleringen was inaugurated in 1953 and commemorates 53 local war dead and missing persons.

Nature

The Krausbuche is located on the border with Rommersheim, within the Rommersheim district; three trees of the same species have grown near its former location. In the vicinity of Fleringen, the Krausbuche was historically a destination for Sunday outings and a place to linger among mossy resting places.

History

Reports of Roman finds exist at named sites, including Auf Bettingen, between Dirren Wies and Fleringer Mühl, near Krausbuch, and above Krausbuch in the direction of the lime kilns. Fleringen’s limestone basin, located on a Roman military road, is associated with a Roman settlement; limestone and iron deposits occur there.
