Culture and Village Character

The Church of St. Cornelius was destroyed down to its foundations on 13 September 1944. St. Cornelius is characterised by stepped buttresses and pointed-arch windows in the nave and choir. The tower was completed in September 1953 and is 29.5 metres high. The church is described as open to everyone and, according to this description, is considered the only building in Brandscheid still regarded as being of heritage-preservation interest.

In Brandscheid, at Zum Marstall, there is a wayside cross dated 1773. Another wayside cross on the main road probably dates from the last quarter of the 18th century. The village also preserves a historic settlement structure with irregularly arranged cross-shaped houses and elongated farm complexes along the main road and Burgstraße.
