Culture and History

The Moselland Museum in Ernst presents village life in the 1950s and 1960s across four floors and approximately 1,600 m². The exhibition includes a vintner’s house, a forge, a grape press, a school and more than 20 historic tractors; there is also a quiz rally. The wine-growing exhibition shows the production of wine, from pressing the grapes through fermentation in the cellar to bottling, and illustrates the demanding work carried out in the steep vineyards of the Moselle.

The Catholic Church of Ernst was built in 1845–1846 according to plans by the architect Johann Claudius von Lassaulx. Its stained-glass windows date from 1912. The furnishings also include a historic organ built by H. L. Voltmann in 1868 and equipped with 20 stops.

Nature and Trails

The Moselkrampen Adventure Trail connects Ernst with vineyards, fallow land, forests and small Moselle villages. It passes through these landscapes, where visitors can experience the local fauna and flora, history and Moselle culture. The trail runs along both sides of the Moselle; at Beilstein it uses the ferry, and at Bruttig the bridge. Continuous signage accompanies the route, and large information boards are provided at the starting points.

The Ernst Wine Nature Trail rises gently and explains grape varieties and wine-growing with the help of information boards. The paths in Ernst are predominantly level and paved with interlocking paving stones or asphalt; benches stand along the Moselle.
