Allenbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature

The Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park covers 10,000 hectares of the Hunsrück uplands and is described as a biodiversity hotspot, with characteristic forests and a diverse range of flora and fauna. Six Dream Loops lead directly through the national park. The premium trails of the Hunsrück region mostly follow narrow, natural paths along streams and rock formations, leading to viewpoints and natural or cultural monuments.

The Allenbach Pond is a biotope with approximately 1 hectare of water surface and 3 hectares of natural area dedicated to nature conservation. The nature trail at the pond explains the diversity of the unique local flora and fauna. The approximately 1-kilometer Allenbach Pond Loop is designed for use with strollers and wheelchairs. It has numerous places to sit and observe. A foot-wading pool is located directly next to the loop; sanitary facilities are available on site. Boating, fishing, and swimming are not permitted at Allenbach Pond.

Culture and History

The simple neoclassical church in Allenbach was completed in 1781 and contains a Stumm organ built in the Empire style in 1832, with one manual and twelve stops. The first documented mention of Allenbach dates to January 22, 1265; it appears in an agreement between the Sponheim brothers Gottfried and Heinrich. Two Allenbach copper smelting works, the old smelter and the new smelter, are documented for 1400 and 1450, respectively. From the Middle Ages until the end of the 19th century, Allenbach was an industrial center.

Allenbach Castle is protected as a historic monument. Remains of the former Allenbach smelting works are still visible. In the meadow landscape below Allenbach, the course of the water canal belonging to the former smelter can also still be seen. Allenbach Castle can be visited on Open Monument Day. It can be reached by bus routes 800, 845, and 890 to the Allenbach stop; a walk follows.

Routes

The “Between the Forests” Dream Loop begins at Allenbach Pond and passes the historic Allenbach grain mill. The Krahloch Geopark along the route conveys information about geology, rocks, mining, and the natural environment through stone exhibits and information boards. The Dream Loop also includes a section of the Idarbach Nature Trail.

National Park Cycling Route Stage 1 is a challenging cycling route that is 55.5 kilometers long and has 949.1 meters of elevation gain. It ends in Allenbach and is designed for athletic e-bike riders.

Getting Around

The Saar-Hunsrück premium hiking region promotes traveling to the area by public transport and getting around the region by bus and train.
