Oberöfflingen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

South of Oberöfflingen, a Baroque wayside cross dating from 1760 stands by the water reservoir. In the Gladbach Woods south of the village there is a pillar cross from 1840. In the Sauerberg Forest southeast of Oberöfflingen stands a Baroque shaft cross from the 18th century; in the Gladbach Valley southeast of the village, another shaft cross is dated 1814. Also in the Gladbach Valley is a Late Gothic niche cross from the 16th or 17th century. North of Oberöfflingen in the direction of Laufeld, there is a wayside chapel with a Pietà relief from the 18th or 19th century.

The present-day church in Oberöfflingen was built in 1854 on the site of a chapel dating from 1669. Some wooden figures from the late 18th century from the former chapel have been preserved. The village's earlier history also reaches far back: in 1339, Heince van Uffingen received a large estate in Oberöfflingen as a fief. Karlmann donated Oberöfflingen to Echternach Abbey; the donation was confirmed by Charlemagne. The old name Ufflingen appears on a seal impression of Heinrich von Ufflingen from 1451. The historic Oberöfflingen estate is recorded in Manderscheid accounts from the 17th and 18th centuries in two halves.

The houses numbered 13–15 were later built on the former site of the Junkerhof; they bore the house name “Junker”. It is reported that the Junkerhof farms in Oberöfflingen burned down around 1800.

Cycling

The Maare-Moselle Cycle Route is a 58.5-kilometre cycling route from Daun to Bernkastel-Kues. It follows a disused railway line.

Nature

The Laufeld Nature Trail uses themed information boards to explain forests, animals, and plants. It includes a forest playground, and the path also passes a forest retention area that expands an existing wetland. The nature trail is a short circular route suitable for a relaxed family walk. The Vulkaneifel trails offer further circular routes through landscapes with maars, forests, stream valleys, and wide views.

Tradition

Oberöfflingen hosts a traditional horse blessing under the motto “St Mauritius – patron saint of horses”. The horse blessing includes an open-air mass; in addition to horses, dogs and other visitors are also welcome.
