Culture
The Belginum Archaeological Park near Morbach-Wederath is a museum built at the site of a Celtic-Roman settlement that was inhabited from around 400 BC to AD 400. The nearby excavated cemetery comprised more than 2,500 graves.
Baldenau Castle Ruins are the only moated castle in the Hunsrück and were built around 1320. At the German Telephone Museum, more than 2,000 exhibits document two centuries of telecommunications history; the exhibition presents this history interactively.
Café Heimat is located in the former family home of Edgar Reitz and displays film stills, original screenplays and props. It also provides interactive access to sequences from the Heimat films. Selected regional products are linked there with regional tradition and history.
Nature
Morbach is located in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park and the Haardtkopf Landscape Protection Area. Ortelsbruch is a Hunsrück hillside bog south of Morbach. At Ortelsbruch, the forest fitness trail has 18 fitness stations. The forest playground includes swings, slides, climbing equipment and a tree zip line and is designed as a multi-generational playground. Nixenweiher pond at Ortelsbruch offers the opportunity to walk in fresh bog water.
Things to Do
Stages 10 and 11 of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig trail pass through the Morbach holiday region. The Butzel-Kewes Trail around Morbach-Gonzerath is a family hiking trail with numerous activity stations. Certified nature and landscape guides offer individually tailored thematic hikes by appointment; bookings are possible for groups of six or more.
The heated outdoor pool in Morbach offers swimming, use of a diving board and beach volleyball.
Cycling
The 33-kilometre cycle route In the Footsteps of History offers several sightseeing opportunities in Morbach. It passes through forests, fields and small villages and leads to elevated viewpoints. The Hunsrück-Nahe road cycling route Across the Rugged Hunsrück Hills reaches Morbach via Baldenau Castle Ruins and then continues through the Idar Forest.
