Osann-Monzel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Osann-Monzel is a wine-growing village in a high valley about 80 metres above the Moselle. In the Bernkastel-Wittlich Moselle region, steep slopes and rocks alternate with vineyards and forests.

Nature

The Monzeler Hüttenkopf is 423.4 metres high and can be reached via a shady forest path. Above Monzel lies the Ruheinsel rest area on the Monzeler Hüttenkopfweg trail. The rest area has seating, views of the Moselle valley and vineyards, as well as an insect hotel, and is described as accessible at any time.

Wine

From the Hüttenkopf viewpoint, you can see the Monzeler Kätzchen and Osanner Rosenberg vineyards. The view also extends downstream along the Moselle to Landshut Castle and upstream towards Neumagen. The Monzeler Kätzchen viewpoint can be reached on foot, passing several wineries and walking through vineyards; from there, you can enjoy views of Bernkastel-Kues.

Culture

From 1879 to 1972, the Eichhaus Osann served as the official cask measuring station for winegrowers from Osann, Monzel and the surrounding area. Monzel is home to St. Nicholas Church, which was built as a Baroque hall church in 1784 and contains Baroque Stations of the Cross from the 18th century.

On the Way

The ninth stage of the Moselsteig trail ends at St. Nicholas Church in Monzel; a direct access path leads to Kesten. The Schiffswanderweg trail begins at the Catholic parish church in Osann and continues via Monzel towards Kesten.

The tenth Moselsteig stage from Osann-Monzel crosses slate rocks and the Brauneberger Juffer vineyard. The fifth stage of the Mosel-Camino reaches (Osann-)Monzel after passing through Traben-Trarbach, Bernkastel-Kues, Lieser and the Brauneberger Juffer. The Eifel Pilgrims’ Cycle Path runs through Osann-Monzel between Himmerod, Klausen and the Moselle. The viewpoint can also be reached via several hiking trails and the Mosel-Radtour zum Staunen E-bike tour.
