History and Culture

Until 1400, Nußbaum was the seat of the Knights of Nußbaum. In 1504, the village was almost completely destroyed by fire. About a century later, Nußbaum was rebuilt from the remains of the old village center.

Nußbaum’s church has an impressive 13th-century tower and is used by both denominations. Nußbaum Castle was renovated in the 18th century and is privately owned. A Baroque grave cross stands in the churchyard of the simultaneous church.

Trails

On Nußbaum’s village square stands the Hildegard information board “Medicinal Herbs,” designated as board 19. At the exit of Nußbaum, the Hildegard Route presents board 20 on Hildegard’s book about “Land Animals.”

A nearby stage of the Hildegard von Bingen Pilgrimage Hiking Trail connects the towns of Monzingen, Nußbaum, Bad Sobernheim, Staudernheim and Disibodenberg.
