Meddersheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Meddersheim is the starting point for several circular hikes that begin and end in the village. These include the 8.0-kilometre H1 Menschels Route, which passes the Schönste Weinsicht 2016 viewpoint. From there, views extend across the volcanic Nahe Valley to the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park and the Donnersberg.

Local options also include two circular walks within the village. A short, barrier-free circular walk provides an opportunity to discover Meddersheim. Other circular hikes lead through vineyards and forests. The Nahe Cycle Route is also mentioned for cycling tours: a suggested circular route from Meddersheim to Bad Kreuznach and back is approximately 45 kilometres long. Bad Sobernheim railway station can be reached from Meddersheim via the Nahe Cycle Route in around three kilometres.

Nature

Meddersheim is situated in a varied cultural landscape of vineyards and arable land, surrounded by wooded hills that reach heights of up to 430 metres. At the same time, the village is located in the Saar-Nahe Mountain and Hill Country, which is characterised by a mosaic of woodland and open land.

The local flora includes spring flowers such as corydalis, field star-of-Bethlehem and primroses, as well as orchids. The documented plant life is estimated to comprise around 500 species of ferns and flowering plants, including rare and endangered species.

Wine

Meddersheim’s vineyards belong to the Paradiesgarten wine-growing region. The named vineyard sites include Altenberg, Edelberg and Rheingrafenberg. Riesling accounts for around 60 per cent of the vineyard area.

Winegrowing is important in Meddersheim. The village has three wineries that market their own wine, as well as the only remaining winegrowers’ cooperative on the Nahe, which represents Nahe wine in the village.

History

The historical heritage includes Roman remains in the surrounding municipal area: remnants of a Roman aqueduct, wall remains from a Roman villa and a partially preserved Roman road that ran close to the village.
