Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg combines striking rock formations, a turbulent history and diverse paths through the landscape. The Rheingrafenstein castle ruins are a landmark of the town: the castle was blown up in 1689 by French troops of Louis XIV and has been in ruins ever since. Together with the Rotenfels, the spa gardens and the historic buildings, this creates a destination where culture, nature and relaxation can be explored in different ways.

Historic Sites and Special Buildings

Those interested in history will find several notable points of interest in Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg. Since 1448, Ebernburg had been a fief of the Electorate of the Palatinate held by the Lords of Sickingen, and it was the birthplace and ancestral seat of the Imperial Knight Franz von Sickingen (1481–1523). The fortified church is the oldest surviving church in the town and was first mentioned in 1212. The listed Amtshof building on Burgstraße is now used as a restaurant with a medieval ambience and cultural offerings.

The architecture of the spa town is also part of its townscape. The Kurmittelhaus is a half-timbered building constructed in a Baroque-influenced Art Nouveau style in 1910/11. The West graduation house is 104 m long and 10 m high; it was renovated in 2009. Those looking for a holiday apartment can therefore tailor their travel plans to their own interests: historic buildings, experiences in the landscape or a combination of both can shape the character of the stay.

Hiking Trails, Rocks and Seasonal Routes

For active days, the 3x3 Salinental area around Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg offers nine hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels. The routes lead through river valleys, meadows, forests, vineyards and rocky landscapes. This allows you to choose between different landscape impressions and trail profiles when planning, without committing to just one type of excursion.

The Rotenfels offers almost 150 m of climbable height. Climbing routes run through the heavily fissured rock face, passing gravel gullies, chimneys, towers, fractured walls and rugged slopes. In addition, a hiking trail runs along the entire edge of the Rotenfels massif. During the ferry-free winter period, Rheingrafenstein can be reached on foot via the Speckerbrücke in the Ebernburg district. During the season, the hand-pulled Nahe ferry at the spa gardens connects Bad Münster with the Huttental from Easter until the beginning of November. From there, hiking trails lead to Rheingrafenstein and Kuhberg in Bad Kreuznach.

Ebernburg can be reached on foot via a staircase trail or by car; to do so, you have to drive through the town. Another way to get to know the landscape on the water and on foot is a day tour on the Nahe. It starts and ends at the Nahe-Alsenz-Eck campsite in Ebernburg and includes a boating briefing, a short hiking section and a river adventure tour along the Rotenfels panorama.

Combining Culture, Nature and Relaxation

The Stone Sculpture Museum and Park was designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando and displays works by the artist couple Kubach-Wilmsen. It opened on 14 August 2010 in the Ebernburg district, not far from the Rotenfels. Those wishing to include nature observation in their plans can visit the Lebendige Nahe nature centre. It presents the region’s flora and fauna and displays native snakes, lizards, frogs, toads and newts in species-appropriate terrariums. The nature centre also offers exhibitions, seminars, lectures, guided tours and environmental education programmes for groups throughout the year.

During the summer months from May to September, the outdoor swimming pool offers, depending on the weather, an idyllically situated thermal saltwater pool at 30 °C beside the expanded spa gardens and in the immediate vicinity of the Nahe Cycle Route. Dining options range from international cuisine to regional meals served by local vintners. This makes it possible to enjoy a varied stay combining hiking, cultural programmes, nature-related activities and regional cuisine.
