Gutenberg: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Above Gutenberg lie the ruins of Gutenburg, a protected cultural monument. The site is associated with a castle first mentioned in 1213; the surviving walls and towers are presented as a local attraction. Gutenburg is also a destination for walks and sightseeing, offering views over the surrounding countryside. Visitors are invited to walk around the castle ruins and linger there.

Culture and History

The Evangelical Church of John Nepomuk was built in the village in 1769. Originally, it served as a simultaneum for both denominations. Gutenberg records urns, bottles, clay lamps, coins and rings dating from the Roman era.

Hiking

The Gutenburg Trail is a circular hiking route around Gutenburg. It was created and signposted in 2011 by the municipality of Gutenberg together with the Rüdesheim collective municipality. Ten sturdy wooden benches stand along the route. The trail offers views of the castle ruins, Gutenberg and the Gräfenbach Valley.

The route leads up to the Ketzenberg; from there, views extend across the Naheland towards the Palatinate and Donnersberg. The Gutenburg Trail starts on Gräfenbachstraße next to the fire station and community centre. There is a car park at the fire station and the community hall. Sturdy footwear is recommended for the trail. It is only partly suitable for people with walking disabilities, is partly paved and runs mainly along agricultural tracks.

Wine

The Schloßberg vineyard site contains Rotliegend, red sandstone formed in the arid climate of the Permian period. It is a steep, south-west-facing hillside location with views of Gutenburg and Gutenberg. The Römerberg vineyard site is characterised by marine terrace gravel overlain by loess loam; it produces Sauvignon Blanc and Burgundy varieties.

Regional Route

The 130-kilometre circular route of the Nahe Wine Route includes the Gutenberg ruins as one of its cultural highlights. The regional route connects sunny vineyard slopes with extensive forests.
