Hundsbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The first church in Hundsbach was built in 980 by Archbishop Willigis of Mainz. At the same time, the village is located on an old Roman road that ran from the Rhine Valley towards Metz.
Culture and History
The present-day church building in Hundsbach dates from 1866. Until the Reformation, the Hundsbach church was administered by the Benedictine monastery on Disibodenberg. A contract from 1744 allowed the Lutheran congregation to use the Reformed church in Hundsbach. In December 1836, the Lutheran and Reformed congregations in Hundsbach united.
In 1867, the old Hundsbach parish church was replaced by a new building designed by government architect Heinrich Krausch. The organ in the Hundsbach church was built in 1867 by the Stumm brothers and has one manual and 13 stops. A small bell from the 14th century comes from Disibodenberg Monastery.
The Jewish history of the village includes the Jewish cemetery Am Judenkirchhof. It is located approximately 1 kilometre east of Hundsbach on a hill beside the road from Kirn to Meisenheim. The Jewish cemetery in Hundsbach is recorded as having been in use from the 17th or 18th century until 1942.
