Meckenbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Meckenbach's church is a simple rectangular building with an eastern tower and a Romanesque portal. Its foundation is traditionally dated to 976. Wall paintings dating from around 1250 depict scenes associated with the Crusades, the Three Magi and Christopher. The church also contains an organ built by the Stumm brothers in 1836, which was restored in 1981.

Meckenbach is connected to federal highway B 41 and linked to the town of Kirn via district road K 8. The Hildegard von Bingen Pilgrimage Trail passes through Meckenbach and has a documented access route between Kirn and Hochstetten-Johannisberg. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Meckenbach can then continue their accommodation search.

Hellberg near Kirn is a 44.4-hectare nature reserve designated in 1942.

Hiking

The “Around Meckenbach” circular trail follows the Old Roman Road and reaches the Meckenbacher Höhe airfield and Hellberg. The route is approximately 15 kilometres long and includes around 425 metres of elevation gain; along the ridge towards Hellberg, it leads into a nature reserve. As a moderate circular hiking trail, it runs via the Roman Road, the Panorama Pavilion, the Dicke Eiche, the airfield, the Pfarrers Bänkelche, the sports field and the meadow path. Good fitness is required.

The Panorama Pavilion provides a place to rest. At Hellberg, the trail reaches a small viewpoint with a bench for resting. From the route, views extend across the Nahe Valley as far as the Soonwald; it also offers views of Meckenbach and the surrounding mountains and forests. At a larger open area, the view opens out over Kirn and the Nahe.

Spring pasque flowers, also known as cowslips, grow in the spring meadow; these flowers are described as rare in the area. On the way towards Hochstädten, the route passes a pasture with Highland cattle.

Meckenbacher Höhe airfield can be reached by car via Hochstetten-Dhaun. Scenic flights from Meckenbacher Höhe may offer aerial views over the Hunsrück, the Naheland and the North Palatinate. Flight operations can be observed at Meckenbacher Höhe airfield, particularly on summer weekends.
