The officially opened historic Wacholderweg hiking trail begins in Niederheckenbach and runs for approximately 18 kilometers through juniper heathland and dense forest. Its starting point and endpoint are at the former Tannenberg inn in Niederheckenbach. The trail includes a 14-kilometer loop and a short 11-kilometer loop.

The Wacholderweg provides information about the origins and ecological significance of juniper heathlands, dwarf-shrub heaths, and mat-grass meadows. It also follows landscape features of cultural and historical significance. The heath plant communities around the route developed from a traditional form of land use and shaped the Eifel landscape until the 19th century. Closed stands of juniper heathland are still present in the area around Heckenbach.

Culture

St. Margareta, a hall church dating from around 1300, stands in Blasweiler. Its churchyard contains eight grave crosses from the 16th to the 18th century as well as three cast-iron crosses from the 19th century.

St. Pankratius and Margarita, a hall church built in 1828–1829, stands in Niederheckenbach. It contains an altar and a Stations of the Cross from Maria Laach. The church is also visited by people from outside the village.

St. Michael Chapel in Oberheckenbach is an 18th-century hall church.
