Regen: Agricultural History, Music and Riverside

Regen brings together culture, riverside scenery and activity: At the Lower Bavarian Agricultural Museum, moving models and machinery introduce visitors to agricultural history, while the spa park on an island in the Black Regen shows a completely different side of the town. There are also music events, tours of historic cellars and activities for a range of interests.

Agricultural history you can experience

The Lower Bavarian Agricultural Museum Regen presents Lower Bavarian agricultural and social history from the 18th to the early 20th century across around 2,000 square metres. Visitors can set moving models, films and agricultural machinery in motion themselves at the push of a button. History is brought to life not only through exhibits, but also through interactive elements. The museum hosts special exhibitions and a variety of events throughout the year. Regular accompanying programmes and guided tours add to what is on offer.

Music, local traditions and Regen’s underground world

During Drumherum, concerts and gatherings of singers and musicians take place throughout Regen’s town centre. The venues include open-air stages, the spa park and inns that welcome musicians. Music and tradition are also at the heart of the Pichelsteinerfest: The festival includes a gondola parade featuring numerous boats, handmade and decorated with changing themes each year. The traditional Pichelsteiner stew is also associated with the festival and the town of Regen.

Another way to explore the town’s history is underground: The beer and ice cellars are regularly presented as Regen’s historic underground world during public guided tours, which explain their history. For visitors who prefer to get around on foot, the Beer Experience Hike is about five kilometres long; almost half the route runs directly alongside the Regen River. There are also 13 terrain therapy trails in and around the town.

Spa park island and distinctive natural features

Regen Spa Park is on an island in the Black Regen. Benches, rose beds, leafy pagodas and a small stream invite visitors to linger by the river. The park also has a sculpture trail featuring works by regional artists. Its subjects include flying fish, mythical creatures and a flute player. The spa park is fully accessible; check before your visit whether temporary construction work has changed conditions.

The quartz rocks near Weißenstein Castle Ruins were placed under nature protection in 1940 because of their geological significance. The Pfahl at Weißenstein is an important habitat for rare animal and plant species that thrive in warm, dry conditions and are adapted to nutrient-poor sites. These geological features and habitats add another dimension to the park landscape and the town’s cultural attractions.

Sports and getting around town

Franz-Zwiebel-Halle is the only ice sports centre in Regen district and lets people of all ages go ice skating whatever the weather. Skates and equipment can be hired on site; check the public skating times before you travel. Regen outdoor pool has an 85-metre tube slide. The Grubhügel cross-country ski trail in Regen can be used for both skating and classic diagonal techniques.

According to the timetable as of September 2026, city buses in Regen run daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. The main points of contact are the bus station at the railway station and the town square. Check the timetable for your travel date. The town library may also be of interest to visitors: Across four floors, it offers more than 16,000 items, including regional literature, local history resources and guidebooks. The library serves members, visitors and tourists.
