Culture

The monastery is described as the oldest Benedictine monastery in the Nordgau region and as an important reform monastery of the Hirsau Reform Movement in southern Germany in the 12th century. It is also described as one of the cultural centers of what is now Upper Palatinate during the High Middle Ages. It is further described as having developed from an early medieval castle that was converted into a Benedictine monastery between 1098 and 1103.
