Birdwatching along the Vils

A nature observation platform has been built on the edge of the sewage treatment plant’s polishing ponds in Theuern. The adjacent wetland along the Vils includes former river channels and ponds, and serves year-round as a resting and breeding ground for local birds as well as migratory birds from the north. This makes it a place that combines a specific birdwatching opportunity with a diverse riverside habitat.

Nature park rangers lead nature observation and nature appreciation tours at the platform for school classes, kindergarten children and the general public. A spotting scope and binoculars provided by Hirschwald Nature Park are available. If you plan to include a guided tour in your stay, check availability in advance.

Visitors can park nearby and walk to the platform without going further into the facility grounds. Cyclists can also visit the tower. Access leads to the nature observation platform; there is no further route into the facility grounds.
