Saint-Nizier-D'azergues: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Saint-Nizier-d'Azergues is a very hilly municipality with elevations ranging from 390 to 908 metres. More than half of the municipality is forested, mainly with conifers.

Hiking

Several hiking trails are signposted year-round in Saint-Nizier-d'Azergues; the trails begin in the village centre. The “Circuit 31 Points de vues” circular trail is a challenging 20-kilometre hike. It offers remarkable viewpoints, particularly along the ridge crossed by the GR7, and is marked with yellow signs and the number 31 on a black background.

Culture

The Château de Pramenoux, a former fief of the lords of Beaujeu, has four surviving corner towers dating from the 15th century. Its main building is designed in the Renaissance style and features an Italian-style terrace.

The Chapelle de Montcharme was built in 1926 above the hamlet of Les Métairies and overlooks the village.

Railway

The railway loop of Saint-Nizier-d'Azergues comprises five viaducts and makes it possible to see the same train again a few minutes later in the same direction; in doing so, it overcomes a difference in elevation of 43 metres.

The very winding railway line between Paray-le-Monial and Lamure was inaugurated on 6 September 1900 and comprises at least nine tunnels and ten viaducts.
