Craponne is located around 10 km west of Lyon, at the foot of the Monts du Lyonnais nature area. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment can include Craponne in their travel plans.
Nature
To the south, the Yzeron forms Craponne’s natural boundary with the municipalities of Brindas and Francheville for a distance of 3.6 km. To the north, the Ratier serves this role for 2.8 km along the boundary with Saint-Genis-les-Ollières and Tassin-la-Demi-Lune. The Vallon de l’Yzeron is designated as a Sensitive Natural Area.
The Sentier des usages runs along the river from the Chemin du Grand Moulin for around 2.6 km. Panels featuring human silhouettes explain the professions that shaped the riverbanks.
Culture
The Espace culturel Eole offers an accessible programme featuring theatre, music, circus, dance, object theatre and puppetry. Cin’Eole is integrated into this cultural centre as an arthouse cinema; since 2021, it has been classified as an arthouse cinema.
The Church of Saint Fortunat was consecrated by Cardinal Gerlier on 28 August 1955. A sculpture by Pierre Roiret on its tympanum depicts Saint Fortunat watching over sick children.
At Les Aqueducs, the Yzeron aqueduct passes through Craponne with a double above-ground siphon. Two preserved aqueduct piers, around 12 m high, are also located there. These piers are listed as historic monuments, but have not yet been classified.
Local life
The Marché Alimentaire et Produits Manufacturés de Craponne brings together stalls selling food and manufactured goods, including producers from the Monts du Lyonnais. The market takes place at Place Andrée Marie Perrin and on Rue Centrale.
Salon Nature en vie is a municipal event organised by the town council in spring for several years. It offers exhibitors as well as activities for children and adults.
