Jullié: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Jullié, the Site de la Roche is located in a valley crossed by the Rolland stream, surrounded by vineyards and meadows on the edge of woodland. The 35-hectare heritage complex dates from the 17th century and is listed in the inventory of picturesque sites in the Rhône département. The site includes a château, a park, farm buildings with a brick kiln and drying sheds, a washhouse, a bread oven, a mill and a pond.

Culture and history

The church of Jullié also combines several historical and artistic traces: it was recently restored and displays liturgical objects and relics, including relics of Marguerite-Marie Alacoque. Its interior also features wall paintings by the painter Édouard Krug from 1874 and 1875. The Chapelle de Vâtre is a private chapel dating from the 12th century.

During the season, the Site de la Roche offers art exhibitions and heritage exhibitions, concerts, local tours, conferences and educational visits for school groups. The buildings can only be visited by appointment and by groups; the site itself is freely accessible every day from 15 March to 30 November.

Landscape and walks

Randoland in Jullié offers a self-guided, one-and-a-half-hour walk for all age groups, exploring the cultural and natural heritage of the municipality. The family-friendly treasure hunt format uses activity sheets for the 4–6, 7–9 and 9–12 age groups; the routes are available to download free of charge.

The Circuit Fromage passes by the Site de la Roche. Along this route, hikers can see the château, the pond and the washhouse.

Wine and culinary destinations

The sunny slopes of Jullié are planted with Gamay noir à jus blanc. One part belongs to the Juliénas cru, while the other belongs to Beaujolais-Villages, also known as Beaujolais-Jullié. Wine tastings are available in the cellar of Fontaine Arts & Vins at 19 rue de l’église from Thursday to Sunday; the winegrowers also welcome visitors in their private cellars.

The Safranerie run by Lydie Chevret in Jullié offers tours of the crocus field and culinary tasting workshops focused on saffron. Depending on the season, seasonal visits there may also include harvesting and separating saffron threads together with the producer.

At the Ferme du Rolland, a guided tour of the farm is offered, which can be combined with a tasting or a meal by prior arrangement. The Nicolosi family welcomes guests at the Col de la Sibérie in a 100% farm restaurant serving convivial meals prepared seasonally with produce from their own production.

Visits

The church of Jullié is open during services and on special days, such as Heritage Days or the “Patrimoinez-vous” days organised by the Beaujolais Vignobles tourist office. Group visits are available on request.
