Amplepuis lies on the ocean-facing slope of the Monts du Beaujolais, in the Beaujolais Vert. The wooded surroundings, characterised by hedgerow landscapes, range from 336 to 868 metres in elevation.

Culture
Since 19 July 2005, the Musée Barthélémy Thimonnier has held the designation “Musée de France” under French heritage legislation. It is located in the former hospital and its chapel in the centre of Amplepuis, presents sewing machines and bicycles, and houses France’s first public collection of sewing machines.
The Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture d’Amplepuis is located in a former girls’ school and offers family shows, a film club, café debates and concerts.
History
Built from local microgranite, the Déchelette district forms a distinct architectural ensemble from the industrial era. It is a rare testament to the region’s textile-industry past and also a Beaujolais geosite within the UNESCO Global Geopark.
Nature
The Clos du Crêt park covers 22 hectares; the municipality of Amplepuis acquired most of the park in 2011. In 2023, an educational trail about fauna and flora was created there. Two urban circular routes run through the park and can be explored on foot or by bicycle.
The “Des dégringoules au vert” hiking trail in Amplepuis can be combined with the wooded terrain of Clos du Crêt, its fitness trail and the educational trail about fauna and flora. The “Amplepuis via Saint-Jean-la-Bussière” hiking trail can be reached via Amplepuis TER station.
