The historical forms of the name, Lymanz and Lymans, can be traced back to the period before the Gallo-Roman era. Anyone planning a stay in Limas may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and History
Around 1280, Lymans was an important fortified town with a secular lord, an ecclesiastical lord appointed by Cluny, the Dean of Lymans, and a provost sent by the Lord of Beaujeu, who collected taxes and exercised lower jurisdiction. The 1560 feudal register of Limas lists the fief and the Château de Belleroche. The Château de Belleroche has not survived to the present day.
The Church of Saint-Gilles de Limas contains two paintings from the late 16th century. Both paintings are classified as historic monuments.
In 2021, a guided walk with commentary organized by the Comité Histoire et Patrimoine on the subject of geology followed paths and lanes to the carrière de Limas.
Local Life
The market in Limas, held on the Place de Mieming, takes place on Tuesday and Saturday mornings and offers local and seasonal produce. The Conscrits festival takes place in Limas every year at the beginning of March, except when elections are scheduled during this period.
Landscape
Limas lies in the heart of Beaujolais; the landscape includes residential, industrial and commercial areas, vineyards and horticulture, major transport routes, and paths through the rural surroundings.
Parc Guillermet is one of Limas's green spaces maintained through late mowing. The annual mowing takes place after 15 July, creating refuges for pollinating insects and supporting pollination. The path running through Parc Guillermet was restored to make it easier for residents to walk there.
