Culture and history

At the Maison du modélisme agricole, visitors can discover true-to-scale models of agricultural machinery. The museum is housed in a former chapel of the Franciscan nuns and features a permanent exhibition with models made by Paul Buyer, a native of Rontalon.

The Église Saint-Romain-en-Lyonnais was built between 1869 and 1872 in the Neo-Gothic style and has particularly remarkable stained-glass windows. Its oldest bell dates from 1494 and has been classified as a Monument historique since 14 April 1904.

The history of the Chapelle Saint-Roch is also connected with Rontalon: it was built in gratitude for the village being spared during the plague epidemic of 1624, rebuilt in 1903 and is now destroyed.

Paths and landscape

The red-marked Circuit des Ravières is an 8-kilometre circular route with a walking time of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes and an elevation gain of 209 metres. It runs mostly away from paved roads, follows many shady paths and passes through a great variety of landscapes.

The green-marked Tour de Bezin is 4.5 kilometres long; its walking time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, with an elevation gain of 244 metres. It leads to the site of the now-destroyed Chapelle Saint-Roch and to the Croix de Saint-Roch standing beside it.

The Sentier Land'Art starts at the Trève de Tiremanteau and is accessible from May to October. The Circuit des Ravières is also near the Croix des Ravières: the cross is located at an altitude of 646 metres and 100 metres from the circular route. In clear weather, the view extends across the Lyon plain and the Alps.

Opening hours

The Maison du modélisme agricole can be visited daily by prior appointment, provided the request is made 24 hours in advance. The Église Saint-Romain-en-Lyonnais is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
