Ambérieux: Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Eglise d'Ambérieux combines Romanesque architecture with a remarkable carved wooden altarpiece from the 18th century. Several fragments of what is presumably an ancient Roman structure are set into the façade of the Eglise d'Ambérieux at various points and display lush foliage motifs.

Culture and History

The municipality's annual events calendar lists the Fête de la galette on 8 May. The Moulin d'Ambérieux also tells the story of local technological history: it was operated partly by steam power until around 1919. A millrace on the right bank drove the wheel of two mills, including the Moulin d'Ambérieux. Its waterwheel drove two horizontal wheels via a vertical shaft and powered two millstones, one for bread grains and one for other grains.

In addition to the bridge built in 1704 near the mill of Ambérieux, a rammed-earth house accommodated a post station.

In the area surrounding Ambérieux is the closed museum Artothèque du Centre d'Arts Plastiques de Villefranche-sur-Saône. The Château de Saint-André du Coing, a castle, the Mont d'Or mountain and the Couvent Sainte-Marie de La Tourette are also located there.

Landscape

The Etang Touristique d'Ambérieux d'Azergues is a fishing pond; swimming is prohibited there. The Notre-Dame de Buisante hill is located in the immediate vicinity of Ambérieux. According to the description, the landscape of Ambérieux d'Azergues resembles the Dombes and includes ponds as well as maize fields.

In the wider region surrounding Ambérieux are the Artothèque de Lyon Part-Dieu museum, La Liouffe mountain and Fourches Voirines mountain.
