Chaponost: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Chaponost preserves evidence of the Gier Roman aqueduct at the Plat de l'Air site. It is home to the longest currently visible continuous series of aqueduct arches in France. Of the 92 arches that supported the channel in Roman times, 72 still remain at the site. The Gier Roman aqueduct dates from the 2nd century AD.

Culture

Throughout the year, guided tours for groups of one or more people are organised at the Plat de l'Air site by reservation, in French and English. The tourist office also organises full- and half-day walks during which several preserved sections of the Gier Roman aqueduct can be discovered.

The Salle du Cuvier at the Maison Berthelot in Chaponost is an exhibition venue. Works by artists and associations are shown there very regularly at weekends. The Regard des Viollières is a preserved and enhanced maintenance shaft of the Aqueduc du Gier.

Nature

The Sentier pédagogique du Boulard passes through four habitats: the tree park, the stream, the pond and the forest. Animal and plant species are explained there using 28 illustrated panels. In Parc du Boulard, visitors can stroll among century-old trees and picnic by the pond.

The Vallée en Barret is a sensitive natural area of ecological and historical importance. Its features include the remains of the siphon bridge of the Gier Roman aqueduct and the Guichardet Wall, with its pink reticulated masonry.

Agriculture

At the Ferme du Milon, farm products and fresh produce from local producers are sold on site. The Ferme du Milon also offers an educational farm with tours for groups.

At the Ferme du Milon, children can feed the animals and meet pigs, poultry, donkeys and the Highland cattle Gribouille; afterwards, the route continues to the barn and sheepfold, then down to the pond and the Le Garon river.
