History

The remains of Francheville Castle, known as the “Vieux Château”, were built by Renaud du Forez, Archbishop of Lyon, in the late 12th or early 13th century on a natural defensive site with a rocky outcrop overlooking the Yzeron Valley.

The castle ruins were listed as protected historic monuments by decree of 12 July 1982. Fort du Bruissin was built between 1878 and 1881 and is now a place of history and meeting.

Outdoors

Aquavert Park has a children’s playground with free access, picnic tables and a walking trail. Aquavert also offers an orienteering activity in its park, where participants use a map to search for markers.

The “Francheville - En pleine nature PR®” route is 10.9 km long, takes three hours and follows the Yzeron as closely as possible.

At the Grand Moulin de l’Yzeron, visitors can observe birds, insects and bees. They can also dip their feet into the water of the Yzeron there.
