Culture

Behind the former post office stands the Saint Blaise Chapel, a surviving remnant of an 11th-century church. The Saint-Laurent d’Avenas church in Maisonneuve dates from 1850.

The Pont de Maisonneuve was inaugurated in 1766 and replaced a ferry on the road from Alès to Le Puy. In the hamlet of Maisonneuve, the Jardin d’Art brut – Alphonse Gurlhie is located in front of the multipurpose hall and the Pépit’art arts and crafts nursery; it features four animal statues.

Landscape

The walls of Chandolas have shaped the grassy landscape. At the Bourbouillet viewpoint, three dolmens stand on the edge of a ravine. The Bourbouillet viewpoint overlooks the Fontgraze stream.

Activities

The “Dolmens: Belvédère de Bourbouillet” cycling loop is 15.6 km long, of moderate difficulty and starts at the entrance to Chandolas. The “Parcours des 7 Clochers” cycle route is a loop that passes through Chandolas and across a plain with vineyards and limestone landscapes.

The signposted “Itinéraire autour d'Alphonse Gurlhie” circular hiking trail is 4.7 km long and starts in Chandolas. It focuses on the Art Brut works of Alphonse Gurlhie, who was born in Chandolas.

The Centre équestre des Combes offers horse rides, hikes, beginner and advanced courses, as well as pony discovery tours. On rides organised by the Centre équestre des Combes, the banks of the Chassezac can be reached in two hours.
