The Musée des Mariniers is located in the former Saint-Sornin church. The original building probably dates from the 10th century; the roof structure was built by shipwrights in the 14th century and is shaped like the bottom of a boat.
The Tour des Pénitents is a remnant of the former Notre-Dame de la Pitié chapel, which was built in 1619 and 1663. Renaissance houses from the 16th and 17th centuries stand on the Place du Tromph. The former Saint-Sornin chapel in Serrières is protected as a historic monument: its nave was protected by decree of 2 August 1932, and the rest of the chapel by decree of 22 December 1937.
The Musée de l'étrange adds an unusual cultural touch. It is dedicated to the unknown and to the mysteries of nature and humanity.
A weekly market takes place every Friday morning at Quai Nord from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Townscape and location
A large part of Serrières’ houses lies between the hill and the Rhône. Serrières is a former village of inland boatmen on the Rhône and is located on the banks of the Rhône near the Via Fluvia, the Via Rhôna and the Pilat.
Nature
The La Côte de Serrières hiking trail offers views of the Rhône, the Serrières suspension bridge and the statue of the Madonna. The Panorama de la Madone provides a view over the Rhône Valley and the Île de la Platière nature reserve.
Events
The Bassin de Joutes is the venue for jousting tournaments organised by the Club de Serrières. During the season, demonstrations and training sessions take place there on Wednesdays from 5 p.m.
Local specialities
Serrières produces AOC wines bearing the Saint-Joseph and Condrieu designations.
