Ailhon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ailhon joined the Villages de caractère network of the Ardèche in 2003.

Ailhon is designated as a Village de caractère and an Accueil Vélo-Destination, with historic sites and monuments.

The calades of Ailhon and the hamlets set in a forest of maritime pines can be explored for their stone houses and remarkable windows and doors.

The Sentier des faïsses features local artworks as well as the biennial ART en FAÏSSES project, in which the community participates.

Art en Faïsses is a permanent exhibition in the Jardin des Faïsses in Ailhon, featuring works by Michel Bugaud, Sylvain Ristori, Severin Millet, Bruno Dabrigeon and Les Ecoliers, as well as photographs by d'Helmut Krakenberger. Admission to the Art en Faïsses exhibition is free.

Nature and Trails

The Sentier des Faysses is an easy 880-metre circular trail in Ailhon, with a walking time of around one hour. Along the Sentier des Faysses, it is possible to observe fire salamanders in streams, walls and undergrowth. Information boards along the Sentier des Faysses explain Ailhon's agricultural terraces and their importance as evidence of land cultivation and rural architecture.

The signposted Découverte d’Ailhon circular route takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes and leads to the Faÿsses, the arboretum, the standing stones, the Gourgues and the Béalières.

Ailhon's permanent orienteering course comprises three routes of 2, 5 and 8 kilometres.

History

The Saint-André Church in Ailhon is listed as a historic monument and illustrates the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture. Its nave is generally attributed to the late Romanesque period; two rib-vaulted side aisles were probably added in the late 15th or early 16th century.
