The village church of Saint-Julien-du-Gua is a converted church with a late Romanesque bell tower portal, dedicated to Saint Julien, who was martyred in Brioude. In the 12th century, it was transferred to the priory of Vesseaux. The historic villagescape also includes three old, picturesque bridges as well as public washhouses and threshing floors.
The Temple de La Pervenche has a special history: it was built in 1820 as an oratory for Protestant community members from Ajoux, Issamoulenc and Saint-Julien-du-Gua. Inside, original benches engraved with family names are still preserved. In addition to its religious function, the Temple de La Pervenche is also used for cultural events such as exhibitions, concerts and theatre performances.

The ZNIEFF area “Ruisseau de l’Auzène” also includes Saint-Julien-du-Gua. It was designated because of the presence of the white-clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes); the Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) has also been recorded in the Ruisseau de l’Auzène.
A small part of the 768-hectare ZNIEFF area “Plateau du Pradou et du Champ de Mars” lies in Saint-Julien-du-Gua. The part located there includes old mountain forests, which at higher elevations are interrupted by meadows as well as heathland and scree fields.
The 761-hectare ZNIEFF area “Ligne de Crête du Rocher de la Paillière au Serre de Suson” includes open heathland with broom, heather and bilberries, Nardus grasslands, and rocky outcrops. Its open habitats serve diurnal birds of prey as hunting or breeding grounds and form an important migration corridor for migratory birds in spring. The area runs along the ridge line between the Cévennes and the Boutières in the municipalities of Ajoux and Saint-Julien-du-Gua.
Hiking Trails
The hike “Saint-Julien-du-Gua – Du Gua à La Pervenche” passes through the Natura 2000 area “Vallée de l'Eyrieux et ses affluents”. The circular hike is classified as moderately difficult, is 10.7 km long and has a stated duration of 3 hours 15 minutes; it is designated as a PR circular trail. It returns to its starting point at Place de l’église. Along its route, it follows the L’Auzène River for approximately 500 m and then crosses it via a footbridge.
The hike “Saint-Julien-du-Gua – Autour du Ruisseau de Gournier” crosses the Ruisseau du Gournier twice.
The hike “Saint-Julien-du-Gua: de l'Auzène à Intres, par le Serre des Fontettes” leads to the Crêtes de Fontettes, offering panoramic views of the Ardèche mountains, and then back to the church square of Saint-Julien-du-Gua.
