Nature and Landscape
The Tour du Charray circular trail begins at the Col de l’Arénier in Pourchères and can be reached from the direction of Privas via a small parking lot along the D104. The moderately difficult circular trail is 5.1 km long, takes around two hours, and has 229 m of elevation gain. It leads over mountain ridges to the ruins of the former Saint-Michel de Charray monastery and offers panoramic views.
In the immediate vicinity of Pourchères are the Roc de Gourdon, the Serre de Suson, the Rocher de la Table, and the Suc de Blandine; each is a mountain.
Culture and History
The Église Mère Térésa, built in 1865, stands in the hamlet of Laÿ. The Église Saint-Julien was initially a priory of the Saint-Chaffre du Monastier Abbey; from the 12th century onward, it belonged to the nearby Charay monastery. Its single-nave church has two bays.
Below the hamlet of Laÿ is a former inn. There, Louis XIII sampled rock partridges from Charray during the siege of Privas.
In the immediate vicinity of Pourchères is the Ruines du Monastère Saint-Michel de Charay, a ruin. The Tour de Diane-de-Poitiers, a historic site, is located in the surrounding area. In the wider regional area are the Alba-la-Romaine (Ardèche, France) – Théâtre gallo-romain, an ancient site, as well as the remains of the Château de la Roche, which are recorded as ruins.
