Lespéron: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Lespéron is the birthplace of the troubadour Perdigon, who was born here around 1170–1175. At the same time, Romanesque architecture, historic paths and a hiking route converge in the village.

Culture

The Eglise de Lespèron is a listed Romanesque church; its first known mention dates from the 11th century. The building consists of carefully laid polychrome stones. It is open daily year-round and can be visited free of charge.

The historic Chemin de Régordane runs from Saint-Gilles du Gard to Le Puy-en-Velay, two important pilgrimage destinations, and passed through the village of Lespéron in the 12th and 13th centuries.

A few hundred metres from the village stands the tower of Concoules. It is approximately 20 metres high, measures ten metres on each side and is made of carefully laid granite stones.

On the way

The Mauras–Lespéron hiking route is moderately difficult, 7.6 kilometres long and takes three hours. It is laid out as a PR circular route and includes 189 metres of ascent and descent respectively. The starting and finishing points are in Lespéron village square.

Landscape

At the beginning of the hike, the Lavillatte volcano is visible; today, it is a pozzolan quarry. The Mauras-Lespéron trail runs above the Espézonnette valley. The river is still unspoilt and rich in fish, and is home to brown trout.
