Nature

The Grotte de la Madeleine is located in the heart of the Réserve naturelle des Gorges de l’Ardèche. The Grotte de la Madeleine offers a guided nature walk with a cave visit in the Gorges de l’Ardèche. Inside the cave, there are large chambers with stalactite and stalagmite formations in a wide range of colours, as well as a sound and light show.

A combined hike to the Grotte de la Madeleine leads to the Belvédère de la Cathédrale, through the undergrowth of Malbosc and to the Dolmen de la Maison forestière.

Discoveries

Aven Marzal in Saint-Remèze brings together the Aven Marzal cave, an underground world museum and the La forêt des Dino prehistoric zoo in one location! Les Escargots des Restanques is also one of the village’s special attractions: the snail farm in Saint-Remèze offers guided visits.

Paths and routes

The Saint-Remèze topoguide includes eight hiking routes and two mountain bike routes. The topoguide also provides route sheets in PDF format and GPX tracks for free download.

The circular route 4 Serre de Barrès–Col d’Eyrole–La Dent de Rez is 13 km long and offers panoramic views of the village and the Saint-Remèze plateau. Its ascent reaches La Dent de Rez at an altitude of 719 metres and offers a 360-degree panorama. Circular route 4 also passes former cultivated terraces with dry-stone walls and runs through undergrowth of holm oaks and boxwood.

Landscape

Saint-Remèze lies between the Massif de la Dent de Rez, the Réserve Naturelle des Gorges de l’Ardèche, the Plateau du Laoul and the Ibie. Saint-Remèze’s vineyards are located on the plateau at an altitude of 365 metres and are part of the AOP Côtes du Vivarais appellation.
