Saint-Sernin reveals its history at clearly identified sites. The church of Saint-Sernin has foundations dating from the Gallo-Roman period; the present-day church was built between 1824 and 1832. The name Saint-Sernin first appears in written records in 950, in an inventory commissioned by Thomas II, Bishop of Viviers.
Culture
On Palm Sundays, Christians from the Aubenas basin climb via the Stations of the Cross on the northern side to the Vinobre Cross. Haut Serre de Vinobre is a local pilgrimage site; a large white cross has stood there for almost 60 years, and 20 church towers can be seen from it. At the summit of Vinobre, an orientation board at the foot of the cross helps visitors identify the surrounding landscape. In the past, the parishioners of Saint-Sernin went in procession to the Croix de l’Espinasse to pray for rain for the crops.

Hiking
Route “23 – Le Serre de Vinobre – St-Sernin” is an easy 6.6 km PR circular route that takes around 2 hours and 5 minutes. On the return leg, the route crosses the Gras karst plateau; there, piles of stones known as clapas bear witness to former cultivated and grazing areas. The route starts at the former SNCF railway station and follows the Via Ardèche, developed as a voie verte, along the Ardèche floodplain. Bus route E15 serves the “Saint-Sernin - Village” stop.
