Montréal is situated on a hill at the southern foothills of the Tanargue massif. The Château de Montréal is a medieval and Renaissance château with a keep dating from the 12th century that is unique in the region. The Château known as Montréal has been listed as a historic monument by decree of 28 December 2000.

Culture and history
Montréal’s elevated location historically enabled control over access to Largentière and its silver mines. Visitors can climb to the top of the keep of the Château de Montréal and enjoy an exceptional view from there. Medieval events have been held at the Château de Montréal in spring and throughout the summer for the past 24 years. Family-friendly medieval activities are available there: calligraphy from age 6, archery and crossbow shooting from age 5, as well as palet and skittles games and colouring activities.
The Tour known as Joyeuse is located approximately 50 metres from the Château de Montréal. Its north façade features sculpted corbels in the entrance area.
Landscape
To the north of Montréal, a panorama opens up views of the Tanargue massif and the Cham du Crau. The Chemin des Cortasses passes remarkable dry-stone walls known as “faïsses”, built by peasant master builders.
On the Chemin des Fades, shaded paths offer views of the Château de Montréal. In addition, babbling streams and a wooded atmosphere with old pine trees characterise the route.
Hiking trails
The circular hiking trail Circuit n°12: Le chemin des Cortasses begins and ends at the Place du village in Montréal. The Chemin des Cortasses is open every day all year round and can be accessed free of charge.
The Chemin des Fades also begins and ends at the Place du village in Montréal. A marked hiking trail runs less than 500 metres from the Source du Toufache.

The Place du village in Montréal is recommended as a car park for the Chemin des Fades. Public transport lines E13 and X74 are mentioned in connection with the Chemin des Fades.
