Vallon Pont D'arc: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Pont d’Arc is a famous natural arch, more than 60 metres high, formed by the Ardèche River and providing access to the Gorges de l’Ardèche, which are classified as a national nature reserve. The UNESCO World Heritage Site includes the natural Pont d’Arc arch. The Combe d’Arc Grand Site project aims to preserve and enhance it as an outstanding natural landmark of the Ardèche.

Culture and history

The decorated Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc Cave has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 22 June 2014. The original cave is located in the hills of the municipality of Vallon-Pont-d’Arc in the natural area of the Gorges de l’Ardèche. For nature conservation reasons, it has never been opened to the public.

The Grotte Chauvet 2 is the world’s largest replica of a decorated cave and welcomes visitors in the hills of Vallon-Pont-d’Arc. It faithfully reproduces the historical masterpieces of the Chauvet Cave. The visit follows a footbridge with ten stopping and observation stations. At the Village d’Artisans d’Art, visitors can discover local crafts and the trades associated with them.

The Promenade du Chastelas is a very easy 3.6-kilometre circular hike. It leads to the ruins of the feudal Chastelas castle and starts and ends at the Vallon-Pont-d’Arc Tourist Office.

Trails and activities

Vallon-Pont-d’Arc is a starting point for the descent through the Gorges de l’Ardèche. The canoe trip through the gorge can begin directly before the Pont d’Arc in Vallon-Pont-d’Arc on a route between 30 and 32 km long. The Pont d’Arc can be reached via hiking trails from the GR4, on the river by canoe or kayak, and by road by car or shuttle.

The hike through the Combe d’Arc begins at Access 1 (Ratière) of the Ratière car park in Vallon-Pont-d’Arc. The route follows the GR4F towards the Pont d’Arc. Five minutes from Vallon-Pont-d’Arc is the Via corda du Pont d’Arc, a small adventure course featuring a forest hike, easy climbing, exposed passages, a zip line and a 40-metre-high abseil.

In Vallon-Pont-d’Arc, a night market takes place every Tuesday evening in July and August during the summer.

Food and local offerings

The visitor presentation at the Nougaterie du Pont d’Arc covers the ingredients, the production steps, a tasting and interaction with visitors. Through a large window, visitors can watch the ongoing production; a 15-minute film about nougat production can also be viewed.

Domaine Walbaum offers wine tastings, Wine & Yoga, electric mountain bike excursions, a Descente Vigneronne and winemakers’ events as wine-tourism experiences. Commented wine tastings at Domaine Walbaum must be booked online.
