Culture

The Chapelle Saint-Andéol is considered a characteristic example of the development of Provençal Romanesque architecture and was added to the supplementary inventory of historic monuments in 2016. It was formerly the priory and parish church of Velorgues; what remains is a single-nave structure with two bays and a semicircular apse.

In the entrance area of the Hôtel Donadeï de Campredon, a cantilevered staircase with three flights and a wrought-iron railing leads upwards. The adjoining salons feature understated plasterwork. The Hôtel-Dieu has a remarkable entrance hall, a monumental staircase, an apothecary and a chapel richly decorated with Louis XVI-style plasterwork.

The Îlot de la Tour d’Argent brings together local civilian architecture dating from the 12th to the 19th century. It also contains a remarkable tower built at the end of the 12th century by the town’s consuls, topped by a Romanesque dome and classified as a historic monument in 2012. The Monument à Alphonse Benoit comprises a bronze bust, an allegory of the Sorgue and the Fontaine de Vaucluse, as well as reliefs depicting the Benoit family and their factory.

On the Place de la Juiverie, the Immeuble Beaucaire is considered a unique testament to Jewish history in Provence. The Parcours des Roues presents the historical and industrial heritage of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue through explanatory panels; it begins at the tourist office and is an approximately 2.5 km walking route through L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

La Filaventure is a sensory museum dedicated to fine fibres, where visitors can explore eight generations of textile history. The museum covers 550 m² over two floors in part of a factory associated with L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue's textile industry.

The Village des Antiquaires de la Gare houses almost 100 antiques and art galleries in a historic spinning mill. Dealers have access to 110 spaces for furniture and objects from bygone eras in a variety of styles. In the centre of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, there are six antique villages with a total of 250 brocante specialists.

A virtual tour is available for the Collégiale Notre-Dame-des-Anges: visitors can enter through one of the two doors and explore the interior at their own pace. The tour includes 50 points of interest with photographs and explanatory texts about the works of art.
