Aurel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Aurel was built on a rocky promontory. The old houses with their stone window surrounds bear witness to the village’s medieval origins and give the townscape a clearly recognisable historic character.

Culture

The 12th-century Church of Saint Aurèle is crowned by a square bell tower covered with glazed tiles. Among the remains of the 13th-century castle is a square tower that originally served as the keep. The polygonal surrounding wall of Aurel Castle is equipped with loopholes. Above the gardens, there is also a restored 19th-century washhouse.

In Aurel, Patricia Lechantoux welcomes visitors to her artist’s studio all year round. The ceramic artist’s studio permanently showcases a collection of unique and original works. Visitors can learn about the production of ceramics there – from the concept and decoration to firing.

The Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Anges, also known as the Chapel du Ventouret, is located on the road to Mont Ventoux. The Chapel du Ventouret was faithfully restored between 2000 and 2003. On the drive up towards Mont Ventoux, visitors can admire the Chapel du Ventouret. The Chapel of Saint-Esprit is located in the hamlet of Les Crottes.

Nature

The 20 km circular hiking trail “AUREL – Terre de lavande” starts in Aurel and passes through forests and lavender landscapes. The route also passes through the hamlet of Les Crottes.

The botanical nature trail near Les Crottes starts at a signposted picnic area. At the starting point, there is a shaded picnic area beneath a pine forest. At the beginning, an information board explains the flora and the route. The nature trail leads through the landscape and is marked with wooden signs and panels about the various plants.
