Culture and History
The Gallo-Roman site of Mons Seleucus in La Bâtie-Montsaléon has been recognised as a site of significant heritage value. From the 1st to the 5th century AD, a settlement developed there at the crossroads of ancient routes, centred around civilian buildings and a large sacred area with several sanctuaries.
The parish church of the Assumption was built in the 17th century. Its vaulted apse has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 12 February 1940. The church houses two paintings classified by the historic monuments authorities as protected objects: “L'Adoration des bergers” from 1631 and “L'Adoration du Sacré-Cœur” from the beginning of the 18th century.
Hiking
The “Le champ de la bataille” hiking route starts and ends at the Place de la Mairie in La Bâtie-Montsaléon. The hike offers panoramic views of the Buëch basin, the peaks of Dévoluy and the mountains of Savournon. It is moderately difficult, 3.8 km long and includes 84 m of ascent and 85 m of descent.
Cycling
“Col de Chaumiane à vélo (N°6)” is an easy cycling loop around La Bâtie-Montsaléon. It starts at the town hall, follows the D148 towards Savournon and continues via the Col de Chaumiane to Chabestan. Via the Route du Villard, it returns to the car park at the town hall.
The GTHA stage from La Bâtie-Montsaléon to Laragne includes technical sections in the Gorges du Riou and near Vieil Eyguians before continuing towards Laragne.
